South Florida players dominate All-State list

The Florida All-State football teams were released by The Associated Press Monday with several players from Miami-Dade and Broward counties represented in Classes 8A-2A.

Nine South Florida players earned first-team honors in Class 8A. Miramar and Miami Killian each had two. Senior linebacker Ryan Samuels and junior defensive back Tyrek Cole made it for Miramar. Senior defensive back Trumaine Washington and junior Jaquan Johnson made it for Killian.

Senior wide receiver C.J. Worton made it for Class 8A state champion South Dade, along with Deerfield Beach senior running back Brandon Powell and North Miami Beach senior wide receiver Steven Ishmael. Coral Springs Taravella senior offensive lineman Siffo Pierre also made the first team along with Coconut Creek Monarch defensive back Shawn Burgess-Becker.

Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas had two players make first team — senior offensive lineman Nick Linder and sophomore defensive lineman Nicolas Bosa in Class 7A.

Miami Central had four first team selections in Class 6A after winning its second consecutive state title. Senior running backs Dalvin Cook and Joseph Yearby were joined by senior offensive linemen Trevor Darling and Raul Diaz. Miami Northwestern senior defensive lineman Mike Smith and senior defensive back John Battle also made first team.

Following its Class 5A state championship, Plantation American Heritage had six seniors on first team - running back Sony Michel, offensive lineman Nathan Kirchmeier, athlete Isaiah McKenzie, defensive lineman Edgar Cerenord and defensive backs Juwan Dowels and Carter Jacobs.

Miami Booker T. Washington finished with four senior first team selections in Class 4A. Quarterback Treon Harris, offensive lineman Jordan Ingraham, defensive end Chad Thomas and defensive back Nigel Bethel represented the national champion Tornadoes. Davie University School had five players – senior wide receiver Chris Taylor, senior linebacker Brandon Russell, senior defensive lineman Brandon Boyce, senior kicker Andrew DiRocco and senior defensive back Quincy Wilson. Miami Gulliver Prep senior defensive back Cornelius Floyd also made the first team.

Miami Westminster Christian juniors Jordan Cronkrite and Tim Irvin made first team in Class 3A.

Class 2A state champion Hialeah Champagnat Catholic had three juniors earn first team honors – defensive lineman Kedrick Labady and defensive backs Malik Jackson and Gerald Robinson.
