Justin Brown scores 30 points to pace Westminster Christian past Mater Lakes

Justin Brown scored 30 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Westminster Christian boys’ basketball team defeated Mater Lakes Academy 70-55 on Saturday.

Brown received help from John Raine who scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The duo of Raine and Brown provided the Warriors with more than enough offensive prowess to get by Mater Lakes.

Diego Miller fell short of a double-double with seven points and seven assists.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Despite Nicole Jimenez’s 27 points and 10 rebounds, Florida Christian dropped a tightly contested game with Gulliver, 49-48, in overtime.

Kisandra Martinez scored seven points and snatched seven rebounds, and Katherine Jim scored five points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Chloe Nixon led Gulliver in scoring with 14 points, and Maja Stepanovic scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Gulliver trailed by as much as 12 points in the second half and six points in the fourth quarter.

The momentum swung in Gulliver’s direction when Nixon scored on a driving layup late to tie the score and force overtime.

Stepanovic scored four of the team’s eight points in overtime, giving her squad the one-point win.

Pablo Schwiep, of Westminster Christian, went 5-0 (four pins) in multiteam duals meet tournament at Palmer Trinity.

Sam Bond finished 2-3, Tyler Orta went 3-1 and Alex Diaz went 2-1.
