University of Florida running back commitment Dalvin Cook had 116 yards rushing and four touchdowns, including an 85-yard punt, return to help Miami Central edge Boynton Beach 55-37 in the first round of the playoffs Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium.
The Rockets (10-1) traded punches early in the first half with the Tigers (9-2) before the offense erupted behind Cook and his counterpart Joseph Yearby, a UM commitment who added 83 yards rushing and a touchdown.
“I try to come out and play week in and week out,” Cook said, “So we’ll continue to do that.”
Boynton Beach fought hard and received an impressive performance by quarterback Lamar Jackson, who threw for 248 yards passing and rushed for an additional 194 yards and four scores. The Tigers came out strong in the second half and held the Rockets to seven points who by then sat out their main starters, but time would be the Tigers worst enemy as the clock expired.
Central advances to face Dillard next week in the regional semifinals.
