Another in a long series of close finishes between rivals Monsignor Pace (6-4) and Belen (7-3) took place Friday afternoon as the Spartans hung on for the victory at Belen.
Following a successful onside kick recovery with 6:24 left, the Wolverines slowly drove to the Pace 3 with 24 seconds left.
With no timeouts , Belen chose to throw it and that’s when Darius Lockhart pressured quarterback Jorge Pola into a bad pass in the end zone that Leondre Hughes picked off to preserve the win for Pace, which closed out its season on a high note.
Next week, Belen will take on Killian.
