Miami Springs took care of business with a 42-7 victory over Mourning High at Milander Park, and now the Golden Hawks will await the result of American-Mater Academy on Friday to determine its playoff fate.
Malik Thomas ran for two touchdowns and Gerald Anderson threw for two more.
With an American win Friday, Springs (7-2, 5-1) clinches the playoffs with the runner-up spot in District 16-7A. A Mater victory tangles the three teams into a tiebreaker for the two playoff spots.
“I’m not really pulling for either/or. We’re just going to sit back and wait and see what happens,” said Springs coach Darryel Bethune, whose team was 1-8 a year ago in his first season with the program.
Thomas finished with 184 yards on 17 carries.
Mourning (3-6, 1-5) was led by a 122-yard effort on 20 carries from Jeremiah Johnson, and Austin Stradford scored the Sharks’ only touchdown from 36 yards out.
