Even though he only touched the ball eight times in 2 1/2 quarters of work, Coral Gables running back Greg Howell had no problem racking up 162 yards and three touchdowns as Coral Gables cruised to the easy running-clock victory over Coral Park (0-8, 0-4) at Gables High School.

The win moved the Cavaliers to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in District 14-8A. They could have clinched their first district title since 2006, but when Miami Beach defeated South Miami, any celebration was postponed. Gables can wrap things up next week when the Cavs host Miami Beach.

Howell came into the week as the second-leading rusher in the county with 1,037 yards, 113 behind Ferguson’s Sean Carranza. He moved temporarily into the lead with 1,199 yards pending Carranza’s output on Friday night against Southwest.
