In a game riddled with fumbles and penalties, the underdog Southridge Spartans overcame the heavily favored Coral Reef Barracudas thanks to Shawn Chandler’s 11-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
Southridge was aided by Coral Reef’s 13 penalties for 93 yards.
Quarterback Nico Pierre kept Coral Reef in the game by throwing for 251 yards — including an 89-yard touchdown to Jeffery Grant in the second quarter. But his two interceptions in the second half negated his positives.
The Barracudas still had a chance to win it until Jacob McCrary fumbled on the punt return with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
