Leading 24-7 at the half, Westminster Academy was in complete control, but La Salle had time to compose itself at the break, scoring 23 unanswered points in a stunning 30-24 win Friday night at Westminster.
“They were going to be embarrassed if they didn’t come out and play. They manned up,” La Salle coach Willie Trimmer said.
It took a fluke play to wake the Royal Lions (6-0) up. Trailing 24-7, a Westminster punt bounced off La Salle’s Ray Vasquez, but Josten Borgella saw it, scooped the ball up in stride and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown cutting the deficit to 24-14 with 6:53 to play in the third.
