Ed Crouch threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead American to a victory over Hialeah-Miami Lakes on Thursday night.

American coach Corey Bell was not displeased, however, with his team’s performance.

“The guys were very sluggish,” Bell said. “We’re getting penalties down field that get touchdowns called back.

“That’s something that won’t be tolerated.”

Two separate runs from Crouch and running back Kama Barnes were both called back in the first half on penalties that kept the Patriots off the scoreboard.

With the lead late in the third quarter, safety Andrew Soroh sealed the game with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Bell was a little happier with his defense’s performance.

“We’ve got to continue to turn the ball over [into touchdowns from turnovers] and win third down going forward,” Bell said.
