Norland notched its third victory against South Dade in the Mosquito Bowl at North Miami Stadium.
Larry Smith corralled an interception into a nine-yard touchdown return in the fourth quarter to seal the 26-6 victory for the Vikings (3-0). Quincy Dorneval had a trio of sacks and a fumble recovery in the win.
Two Kevon O’Connor field goals put the Vikings up 6-0 at halftime. Alec Carr completed 2-of-13 passes for 13 yards, one touchdown, and one interception for the Vikings. Dave Richards had both grabs. Terence Evans had 17 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings. Darius Brown’s 72-yard snatch from Darnell Durham was the only score for the Buccaneers (1-2).
“The only thing I did was look at the ball,” Smith said. “My d-linemen came and hit the quarterback and tipped it up in the air and I caught it. We work really hard in the practice. We have to get in the weight room and get stronger.”
Each team played a sloppy throughout, putting the ball on the turf 13 times and losing it five times via fumble.
