After dethroning two-time defending state champion Blanche Ely in the regional semifinals, the Boyd Anderson boys’ basketball team punched its ticket to Lakeland on Saturday.

Behind 25 points from Rodney Simeon, host Boyd Anderson cruised to a 65-42 victory over Nova in the Region 4-7A final.

The Cobras (25-5), who ceremoniously cut the nets down on their home court after the win, advance to face Oviedo in state semifinals on Thursday at The Lakeland Center.

Simeon, a 6-5 senior wing, was able to score every which way, driving to the basket, drawing fouls and also drilling three three-pointers.

He also had seven rebounds and three steals.

“He came around good,” Boyd Anderson coach Eugene Richardson said. “He’s been battling some injuries — the groin, this and that — but the thing that I love about him is he keeps working.”

Boyd Anderson had two separate runs of at least 14 unanswered points in the first half that put it in control throughout.

The Cobras had a 14-0 run where five different players scored in the first quarter after trailing 7-2 to start the game.

Not to outdo themselves, they then reeled off 15 unanswered points in the second quarter with Simeon scoring eight of the 15.

Senior point guard Dondre Duffus had 14 points and five assists. His backcourt mate, Diandre Wilson, added nine points.

Pitchon Pierre had five points, eight rebounds and five assists. Center Roody Romain blocked five shots and contested several others.

It’s the seventh time Boyd Anderson has won a regional championship — the last in 2010. If the Cobras were to win the championship, it would be the first state title for the school since 1994.

For Nova (18-7), Roshane Walker led the way with 13 points after a 27-point outing against South Broward in the regional semifinals.

Halftime: BA 38-26. Three-pointers: Simeon 3, Duffus, Johnson, Walker. Rebounds: Eubanks, P. Pierre 8. Assists: P. Pierre, Duffus 5. Steals: Walker 6. Blocks: Romain 5.
