Blanche Ely defeated the visiting West Boca Bulls 44-20 in a Class 7A Region 4 quarterfinal.
West Boca scored on its second drive of the game on a 1-yard run by quarterback Paul Columbo. Up 6-0 the Bulls tried to catch Ely by surprise with an onside kick but were unsuccessful. On the next play, Nelson Ervin threw a 30-yard touchdown to Chazton McKenzie and gave Ely a 7-6 lead.
The Tigers took a 13-7 with a Kenneth Rawls touchdown reception of 12 yards, force West Boca to punt. The ball sailed over the punter and gave the Tigers a 15-6.
Instead of taking a knee into halftime, the Bulls tried to score in the last minute of a half, but Tyquan Fields intercepted a slant pass and returned it for a 41-yard touchdown and gave the Tigers a 22-6 halftime lead.
Nelson Ervin threw another pair of touchdowns in the second half finishing the game with 299 yards and four touchdowns on the day. Blanche Ely (6-5) travels to play Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer (11-0) on Friday.
