American Heritage shreds Naples Lely’s defense in win

American Heritage (10-1) beat Naples Lely (4-7) 51-13 in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals on the Patriots’ home field Friday night.
American Heritage junior quarterback Torrance Gibson, who is being recruited by the University of Miami and Ohio State, shredded the Trojans’ defense for 201 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Gibson also threw for 88 yards and three touchdowns.
The Patriots offense was clicking all night.
American Heritage scored on every possession of the game, including an 85-yard kick return for touchdown as time expired.
“I think we played a good game, considering it was our first playoff game,” American Heritage coach and former UM defensive back Mike Rumph said.
American Heritage will play Immokalee next week in the 5A regional semifinals.
