Ending a six-year winless drought in the lengthy series between the two fierce rivals, Fort Lauderdale (5-5) defeated Stranahan (4-6) on Friday.
A leaping first-half 13-yard touchdown catch from junior wide receiver James Gardner appeared likely to be the difference as the torrential rain made the field more and more unplayable as the game went on.
But senior linebacker T.J. Ellison picked off a pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown with 4:39 remaining in the game, and Jaboree Williams showed he’s not just a linebacker by taking a carry and rumbling 24 yards into the end zone just over a minute later to complete the scoring.
