Cardinal Gibbons falls in two tough volleyball matchups

The Cardinal Gibbons girls’ volleyball team traveled to Merritt Island to face two very talented in-state teams in Merritt Island and Jacksonville Bishop Kenny High.

The Chiefs (18-3), first faced Bishop Kenny and dropped the match 3-1 as Bishop Kenny (22-2), the 10th ranked team in the state by maxpreps.com, proved to be too much to handle. Kassie Akouri-tejedor led the way for the Chiefs with 13 assists, 12 digs, four points and a kill.

Next up for Cardinal Gibbons was Merritt Island. The Mustangs (21-4) edged out the Chiefs in three very competitive sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.

Daniella Molinari led the Chiefs with six points, four kills, four digs and an ace.

• Bishop Kenny d. Cardinal Gibbons 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 15-17: Kassie Akouri-Tejedor 13 assists, 4 points, 12 digs, kill.

• Merritt Island d. Cardinal Gibbons 25-20, 25-21, 25-21: Daniella Molinari 4 kills, assist, 6 points, ace, 4 digs. CG 18-7.
