With the booming kills of Amber Addison, Jennifer-Randi Cooks keeping plays alive with one sensational dig after another and the sheer athleticism of Sydney Armbrister and Alyssa Osborn, Chaminade-Madonna simply had too many fires for Archbishop McCarthy to put out on Tuesday.

Behind its dynamic quartet, Chaminade (10-10) looked in postseason form while defeating the rival Mavericks 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 in a girls’ volleyball match at Archbishop McCarthy.

“The offense was pretty strong today,” Lions coach Jason Johnson said. “On defense we hustled pretty well and we were able to find some hitters. We made some smart swings and kept Archbishop on their toes a little bit.”

Nobody had the Mavericks (14-9) guessing more than Addison, who showed off both her power and finesse with deftly placed kills.

Addison finished with three service points and 14 kills, although the totals must have seemed much more to the Mavericks. Osborn had a game-high 36 assists, 12 service points and four kills. Cooks had 10 digs, and Jacqui Koebel had 11 kills, seven service points and five digs.

In the first set, Alyssa Osborn’s ace staked the Lions to a quick 6-0 lead before Addison elevated high along the sideline for one of her signature kills and then dropped in an ace of her own for a commanding 17-7 lead.

“I just tried helping out the team with some kills,” Addison said. “It helps getting us back in the game. Instead of going [down the] line I can also go sharp and make it so the other team doesn’t know where I am going.”

One of the Lions’ best sequences came in the final set when Cooks tracked the ball out of bounds for a dig and Armbrister finished off the point with a kill. From there Addison rattled off three consecutive kills for an 11-5 lead.

The Mavericks got five points, six kills and 12 assists from Katie McInnis. Valentina Caicedo added 11 points, four aces and seven digs.
