Trey Flowers sported a soaked and stretched-out jersey after Palmetto’s 36-0 win against Coral Reef at Tropical Park
Trey netted a touchdown trio for the Panthers (2-0) and gobbled up 87 yards on 15 carries in the victory. Desperate defenders dug fingers into Flower’s navy threads but couldn’t pull him down. Flowers’ focused force was too much for tacklers, leaving the Barracudas battered.
“I give everything to the o-line,” Flowers said. “They did what they had to do and I just followed them. We are going to keep building on that. Just work. 1-0 each week. They were diving at my legs a lot. They were really going for.”
Quarterback Hugh Lowson completed 4-of-14 passes for 31 yards in the victory. Lowson ran for 69 yards. The Panthers led 22-0 at halftime from Ivan Thomas' and two Flowers scores. Lenox Howard added a 17 yard fourth quarter scamper.
"Trey is a big back,” Panthers coach Mike Manasco said. "He’s over 200 pounds…being 205 pounds and being able to move like he moves is going to ware defenses down."
Keith Anderson completed 13-of-20 passes, for 109 yards. He also rushed for 93 yards in the loss. Quincy Gilbert and Jorge Arana had sacks for the Panthers.
Flowers appeared to be fine after sitting out of the Panthers game last week. He now prepared for a matchup at 10 a.m. Saturday against Braddock. Coral Reef plays Friday at Killian.
