Braddock and Ferguson often have fierce competitions in several sports.
On Tuesday afternoon, the two neighborhood rivals took it to the bowling alley.
And after five games, it was Braddock’s girls who emerged with a GMAC championship.
The squad of Patricia Velasco, Regina Monteavaro, Jadon Sallam, Lacey Simpson, Jenny Cortez, Maria Fonseca, Eileen Garcia and Scarlett Garcia helped the Bulldogs outlast Ferguson to win 3-2 in the finals at Bird Bowl not long after winning another tough five-game match 3-2 in the semifinal round of the eight-team tournament.
Never miss a local story.
“It was exciting to watch the girls pull off one good win after another,” first-year Braddock coach Sebastian Verger said. “The girls kept their composure throughout the day and played well.”
TERRA continued its dominance on the boys’ side, winning its third consecutive GMAC championship.
The Wolves had little trouble putting away a strong Killian squad 3-0 in the finals after dropping only one game the whole day. TERRA also beat Reagan in the semifinals and Coral Gables in the quarterfinals.
TERRA’s squad consisted of William Reyes, Giancarlo Caro, Marek Bochnik, Chris Bacallao, Kevin Morrissey, Gabriel Fernandez and David Junco.
“This win means a lot to us because this is still a young program,” TERRA coach Ed Garland said. “We’re only in our fourth year and to see kids like ours that were bowling 110 and 115 as freshmen that are now bowling 198 and 200, it’s all a coach could ever ask for seeing them develop.”
