The Carolina Panthers announced on Monday that linebacker Thomas Davis suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Davis was hurt early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss at New Orleans when his leg was caught in the Superdome turf while trying to pursue Saints running back Pierre Thomas.
The 2009 season has not been kind to the fifth-year Georgia product, who suffered a sprained MCL in training camp but was able to recover in time for the season opener. Davis has racked up 69 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks this year while missing only one of Carolina's eight contests.
Landon Johnson, who took over for Davis for the remainder of Sunday's game, is expected to take over in Davis' absence.
