FANTASY FOOTBALL

Fantasy Football: Other teams to root for

stevenschwadron@yahoo.com

I just looked at the standings for the first time this year.

The NFL standings.

My name is Steven Schwadron and I have a problem.

But how many people are still kidding themselves and others by saying they still care about their favorite team more than their fantasy team? I know I am not alone.

You could argue that people like me -- us -- are destroying sports, but actually interest is heightened as fantasy sports exploded with the growth of the Internet providing information to all, access to leagues and stat services. What if your favorite team is the Rams? Your season is over. So you turn to fantasy, so fantasy is a good thing for sports.

I want to do well, and I want to do well with for you.

Last week I backed Selvin Young, who is now hurt and put up the same numbers as previous weeks. But I also said it was a good time to get Randy Moss and Andre Johnson, who turned it up a notch. I also backed and continue to back Matt Forte, who can do it all and is a rock solid RB1.

Here are some random observations heading into Week 6:

It took awhile for people to believe in Wes Welker last year. I remember because I had few takers when I was shopping him because I was in need of a RB. Could Greg Camarillo be a guy no one wants? He has a good rapport with Chad Pennington on a Dolphins team playing with confidence.

If you watched the Bengals game at all, Antonio Chatmanwas getting more looks from Carson Palmer and seemed to be the No. 2 option over Chris Henry and Chad Johnson. He isn't a bad pickup if you are desperate.

I have to state the obvious here, but it is becoming clear that Jason Witten is one of the most valuable players in fantasy. Not just the most valuable TE. Witten simply destroys every tight end you are going to face week in and week out, and if you have depth to trade and have any other TE but Witten, I'd do anything to have the guy line up every week in my lineup. I can't believe I took Santonio Holmes over him near the end of the fourth round in one league, though he was in the mix with Holmes and Jonathan Stewart.

I figured one would make it back to me early in the 5th. Neither did and I am depressed.

As for DeAngelo Williams, I wonder how many people sat Williams last week and will start him this week when he goes eight carries for 25 yards and no TDs. Not a problem I'd want to deal with, but Stewart is still a solid RB2 while Williams is a flex play based on matchups.

• Rising: Steve Breaston. Obviously benefiting from Anquan Boldin's absence, but should be a WR3 this week.

• Falling:Peyton Manning. If ever a week to sit him, this would be it. Earnest Graham. Losing touches to Warrick Dunn and has a tough matchup this week.
