Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson and Washington Redskins safety Chris Horton have been selected as the NFL's top rookies for the month of September.
Johnson, the 24th overall pick out of East Carolina, ranks second in the AFC with 337 rushing yards, second in yards from scrimmage with 402 and has played a key role in the Titans' 4-0 start.
Johnson is the first Titan to be selected as offensive rookie of the month since Eddie George took the honor in September of 1996.
A seventh-round pick, 249th overall, Horton is tied for the NFC lead with three interceptions. Making his first start in Week 2 against the Saints, the UCLA-product became the first 'Skins rookie to record two picks and a fumble recovery in a single game since Brig Owens accomplished it on November 27, 1966.
Horton is the first Redskins defensive player to earn rookie of the month honors since cornerback Fred Smoot garnered the award in September of 2001.
