In what can be a show stealer, Austin Aries faces Shinsuke Nakamura during NXT TakeOver: The End which is 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at Full Sail Live at Full Sail University in Winter Park, near Orlando. The event will be broadcast live on WWE Network.
“A match that I’m really forward to is Austin Aries vs. Shinsuke Nakamura,” NXT leader Paul Triple H Levesque, WWE executive vice president for talent, live events and creative, said during a conference call on Tuesday, June 7.
Aries and Nakamura are new to NXT, but they are not new to the profession nor to pro wrestling fans globally.
“I think for a lot of fans around the world this has been a match that they’ve probably thought about many times over the years,” Levesque continued, “and I’m really excited that we can finally deliver it to them.
“Aries is making an impact, and I think as he continues to move forward, he’s going to continue to grow on that impact. A lot of guys came in at the same time, and I think Aries’ frustration of kind of getting caught in that whirlwind of all these people coming in has bowled over.
“Nakamura...What do you say...Nakamura is Nakamura. When you talk about team players to me in the future of WWE it’s guys like Nakamura.”
In another interesting matchup, The Perfect 10 Tye Dillinger gets a chance to shine on the big stage against another highly anticipated NXT newcomer, Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas (formerly La Sombra).
“To see the debut of Andrade is very exciting,” Levesque said, “going against one of the [NXT] foundation guys -- such a solid performer -- in Tye Dillinger. I think as Tye continues to evolve you’ll see great things from him in the future...I’m really excited to see what Almas can do. I feel like he’s going to be a very big player in the next few years in the WWE landscape.”
- NXT TakeOver: The End at Full Sail
NXT TakeOver: The End special is 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at Full Sail Live at Full Sail University in Winter Park, near Orlando. The event will be broadcast live on WWE Network.
NXT champ Samoa Joe vs. former champ Finn Balor in a steel cage
Levesque said: “When you talk about rivalries, to be able to carry something seven months, to be able to have that rivalry go that long, eep it fresh and interesting, is a testament to the two talents.”
NXT tag champs American Alpha (Chad Gable and Jason Jordan) vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson)
Levesque said: “To me, one of the hottest rivalries that there has been in the tag team division period -- whether you’re talking WWE or NXT -- is the American Alpha vs. The Revival. Just two classic tag teams but with totally different styles, and I’m a big believer in the kind of styles make rivalries. I think these guys are going to do what they have done before, which is to conitnue to make tag team wrestling bigger and bigger and bigger.”
NXT women’s champ Asuka vs. Nia Jax
Levesque said: “Asuka, probably the most dominant women’s champion we’ve ever had in NXT, going up against probably the most unique competitor in the women’s division, Nia Jax. There is nobody like her, and that is a fact. This is going to be one that I can not wait to see. Again, styles making fights. This is going to be one of those ones that is going to be really, really interesting to see how it unfolds.”
Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas vs. Tye Dillinger
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Austin Aries
The pre-show begins at 7:30 p.m.
- NXT on WWE Network
WWE NXT is 8 p.m. Wednesdays on WWE Network.
5 More Minutes
Levesque said: “There has been a lot of talk about the name of this TakeOver ‘The End.’ It has a lot of meanings, and I think you’ll see that [June 8] as well.
“When Samoa Joe and Finn Balor step in the ring for the first time in NXT history inside a steel cage, I think you can expect it to be the end.”
Levesque also noted NXT conducts TV tapings at Full Sail Live on Thursday, June 9, before an exciting UK Tour.
Levesque said: “Everybody [in NXT] is heading over to the UK, including myself, for the Download Festival, which is one of the biggest [rock] music festivals in the world, and then we’re going to continue to hit the UK, the other side, so to speak, that we didn’t hit the first time.
“We have June 13 in Belfast; June 14 in Dublin, Ireland; June 15 in Liverpool; June 16 in Bournemouth; and June 17 in Plymouth.
“If you haven’t seen NXT live, you can go online; you can look at the social media chatter. I would highly recommend you do that. I feel like there is no better show, no experience like it. NXT brings something totally different to the table and brings an energy that few things can deliver.”
Tickets for the Download Festival are available at
Tickets for the rest of NXT’s tour of the U.K. and Ireland are also available.

In late June starts the Cruiserweight Classic spectacular.
Levesque said: “We have 32 of the best cruiserweights from around the world coming into Orlando to compete in what I feel will be the premiere cruiserweight tournament ever and find out who the best in the world is in the under 205-pound division. When you bring in some of the names who we’re bringing in, I think this is going to be just an unbelievable opportunity over 10 weeks to see some amazing, amazing performers.
“We’ll be having some announcements coming up of who those performers will be. There’s going to be a lot of surprises. This show will be something like you’ve never seen come out of WWE or NXT, even in the way it’s presented. The commentary team, all of it. It’s going to be something totally different, and I’m really, really excited about it.”
