SAN FRANCISCO—If there is one thing WWE superstars, legends and divas know how to do, it’s make an entrance.
Hundreds of media outlets from around the world greeted WWE superstars Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, and WWE divas Nikki and Brie Bella as they arrived at The Fairmont San Francisco in a customized WrestleMania cable car.
From there, the group posed for photos at the top of the balcony of that world-renowned luxury hotel. Each then answered questions leading to the biggest spectacle in sports entertainment. This was one of many events scheduled to spread the word on WrestleMania 31, which is Sunday, March 29 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., about an hour away from The Fairmont.
WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon was also present, expressing what WrestleMania meant to her. She discussed how excited the company was to have WWE World champion Brock Lesnar sign a new deal.
Never miss a local story.
When I asked her about a potential colossal showdown between the “Beast Incarnate” and The Rock, she responded with, “Anything can happen in WWE. Brock vs. Rock has a nice ring to it.”
I left it at that.
Lesnar’s challenger Roman Reigns said he doesn’t want to become the next John Cena. He wants to become the first Roman Reigns. The former member of The Shield sounded confident in his abilities. Reigns doesn’t care if he is booed or cheered. His goal is to stay true to himself. The San Francisco 49ers fan finds it extra special to headline WrestleMania in the venue where his favorite team plays.
John Cena enjoys working with younger talent and is proud of the talent at NXT. He has no signs of stopping, no matter what the WrestleMania outcome.
Daniel Bryan admitted one of his former trainers, Shawn Michaels, was a little concerned about his involvement in the Intercontinental championship ladder match. Bryan, who had neck surgery last year, wants to bring the title back to prominence. The leader of the “Yes Movement” wants to capture a piece of WWE gold that he has never won.
Bryan also mentioned how he is worried about making it through his induction speech for Connor “The Crusher” Michalek during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Bryan became friends with Connor, a spirited young fan who died of pediatric brain cancer last year. Connor is the recipient of the first Warrior Award, named in honor of the late, great Ultimate Warrior. Bryan anticipates it being an emotional, yet special moment to honor someone who was one of his biggest supporters.
Hulk Hogan says he would love to wrestle one more match against someone who is over like The Rock or a “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. He says there is some frustration being a part of the WrestleMania festivities, but not being able to entertain fans in the ring. Hogan mentioned he saw The Undertaker and thought he was in phenomenal shape. He also was happy to see Sting wrestling in a WWE ring for the first time against Triple H and “Macho Man” Randy Savage going into the WWE Hall of Fame the same weekend.
The Bella Twins were ecstatic about their involvement in the diva’s tag match at WrestleMania. They see a potential of divas headlining big events the same way as Ronda Rousey does in UFC.
