There’s a new sheriff in town, and his name is Chris Van Vliet.
Borrowed that line from the movie 48 Hrs.: Eddie Murphy, Nick Nolte, action comedy gold.
Van Vliet isn’t really a sheriff, fighting crime in Miami. Rather, he’s policing movies like 48 Hrs (newer ones) as the entertainment reporter for WSVN and Deco Drive on Ch.7, a FOX affiliate in the South Florida television market.
Van Vliet, one of South Florida’s newest reporters, is not only talking to all the major television and movie stars, but he’s also interviewing the superstars of WWE.
A longtime WWE fan, Van Vliet grew up in Canada with aspirations of stepping into a WWE ring as a pro wrestler/sports entertainer. He gave it a shot, but college and money ended those WrestleMania main event dreams. That doesn’t stop him from being there.
On Friday morning (March 27), Van Vliet traveled (catching the red eye) to Santa Clara, Calif., meeting his friends for Sunday’s mega event, WWE’s Super Bowl, WrestleMania 31, at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.
Van Vliet is a fan, but he may interview some talent during WrestleMania Weekend. Once a reporter, always a reporter.
His prior reporting employment in the entertainment field resided in Cleveland, and he became friends with Cleveland’s No.4 son, WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler. Son No.1 is LeBron. Drew Carey No.2, and at No.3 The Miz. Sorry Dolph, but four is a good representative number (Lou Gehrig, Duke Snider, Fatal Fourway, Joe Dumars, Brett Favre, Final Four, Jean Beliveau, Bobby Orr, Four Horsemen).
For Deco Drive, Van Vliet recently ventured to Los Angeles, interviewing University of Miami graduate The Rock Dwayne Johnson for the Fast & Furious 7 release. Of course, they also discussed WWE.
Van Vliet posts his full interviews, including the one with The Rock and other pro wrestlers/sports entertainers, on his YouTube channel.
He enjoys talking pro wrestling/sports entertainment.
Deco Drive is 7:30 p.m. weekdays on WSVN Ch.7.
