One of two things is going to happen Tuesday when the NFL awards Super Bowls 50 and 51:

The Dolphins are totally new. They have new uniforms. They have a new logo. They’ve committed a whopping $204 million in new contracts this offseason with $91 million of that hefty sum guaranteed to 14 players.

The Marlins, yawn, are home again this week.

The San Francisco Bay area is clearly the favorite to land the most significant of the NFL’s signature games in a couple of weeks. Super Bowl 50, a game that will not only celebrate the two finest teams of the NFL’s 2015 season, but also recall half a century in which professional football became the national game, is going to be hard to wrest from the folks out west.

History reminds that people in Baltimore, Cleveland, Houston, St. Louis and Los Angeles ignored the early signs of an NFL franchise getting ready to uproot long before their teams left town.

Dion Jordan didn’t exactly jump out of the blocks to start his NFL career, and that’s not an aspersion but simply the truth. The Dolphins first-round pick is still recovering from shoulder surgery, which everyone knew about, so when most of the other rookies got busy trying to impress coaches during Friday’s rookie camp practice, Jordan simply watched.

The names the Miami Dolphins added in the draft this weekend start to blur after a while because general manager Jeff Ireland did a fine job of gathering a lot of picks for this draft and then filled his needs as well as desires over three exhilarating days.

Years from now when hindsight puts this NFL draft into focus, we’ll know if the Dolphins decision to improve on defense instead of turning the offense into a loaded point-manufacturing machine was the right way to go.

The days of being safe, boring and mediocre passed into history Thursday.
