University of Miami running back Javarris James will likely miss his fourth consecutive game with a high ankle sprain when the Hurricanes host Central Florida on Saturday.
James, a junior, participated in individual drills this week, but UM coach Randy Shannon said after the team's Thursday morning practice that James is unlikely to play.
''I don't think Javarris will be able to go,'' Shannon said. ``I'm not sure yet, but I don't think he will.''
Barring any setbacks, that means James probably will return when the Hurricanes resume Atlantic Coast Conference play against Duke on Oct. 18.
Until then, sophomore Graig Cooper will continue to be Miami's primary run threat. Cooper leads the team with 322 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Saturday's game at Dolphin Stadium is set for 3:45 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
Injury report: Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson (leg) is doubtful. Guard Chris Barney (leg) and wide receiver Thearon Collier (chest) are questionable. Linebacker Jordan Futch (head), running back Damien Berry (leg) and safety Vaughn Telemaque (arm) are out.
SHIELDS LOOKS TO REBOUND
Shannon said junior wide receiver Sam Shields has been working hard to bounce back from a disappointing performance last week against FSU.
Shields drew a costly illegal substitution penalty when he ran onto the field with the wrong unit. He finished with just two catches for 14 yards.
''He's trying to get back to where he needs to be at,'' Shannon said. ``We keep pushing him, and we're not going to give up on him.''
