UM-UF discuss keeping rivalry alive

By SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN AND MANNY NAVARRO
University of Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt said before Saturday night's game he has spoken with Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley about setting up future meetings between the teams.
''It's definitely something I mentioned to Jeremy when we spoke,'' Hocutt said. ``Miami is very interested in keeping this series alive and so is Florida.''
The Gators are scheduled to visit Miami in 2013, but there are no games scheduled after that. The Gators and Canes used to play nearly every year from the 1940s until the mid 1980s. Saturday's game was the fifth since the teams ended the annual series in 1987.
COMINGS AND GOINGS . . .
UM running back Javarris James left the game after carrying the ball just twice for 4 yards in the first quarter. He was seen on the sidelines with ice on his ankle and crutches next to him on the bench.
As promised by coach Randy Shannon, UM backup freshman quarterback Jacory Harris entered the game in the first half. Harris replaced starter Robert Marve at quarterback with 10:39 left and played two series before Marve came back to take the final snap of the half.
CURSE OF CORSO AVERTED
The pregame moment Miami fans were dreading never happened. The Hurricanes were underdogs by 22 ½ points, but they still didn't want ESPN College GameDay analyst Lee Corso to pick them to win, believing UM is cursed when Corso picks them. GameDay anchor Chris Fowler said: ``Only once in the 15-year history of road shows have we gone to a game where the favorite is expected to crush the underdog by a margin this big.''
