Miami, Virginia Tech split doubleheader

Enrique Garcia allowed just two hits in eight innings as Miami beat Virginia Tech 9-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Garcia (5-1) gave up four hits and struck out two. Losing pitcher Jesse Hahn (3-6) lasted six innings, allowing four runs and eight hits.

Miami (41-6, 22-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) never trailed after jumping out to quick lead in the first inning when Dennis Raben hit a three-run homer to right. Mark Sobolewski also hit a home run, a two-run shot to left field, in the seventh.

Virginia Tech's (21-30, 5-22) only two runs in the second game both came in the eighth inning, when Sean Ryan and Travis Willson both scored on Sean O'Brien's single.

Virginia Tech beat Miami 7-6 in the first game after Justin Wright pitched a complete game and Austin Wates doubled to drive home the game-winning run.

Wright (3-0) allowed six runs and nine hits. He struck out seven and walked four.

Carlos Gutierrez (2-1) took the loss for Miami in the first game.

Miami beat Virginia Tech 12-4 on Friday night.
