Florida State guard Rodney Hudson likely out

TALLAHASSEE -- When they play at rival Florida on Saturday, the Seminoles likely will be without their top offensive lineman, junior left guard Rodney Hudson.

Junior Brandon Davis (South Miami) started in Hudson's place Saturday against Maryland and played well, according to coach Bobby Bowden . But FSU coaches said last week they hoped Hudson would be back from his knee injury in time to face the Gators defense, which is regarded by some as the best in the country.

Florida has held six opponents to seven points or less, and only one foe (Arkansas) has scored 20.

Take away all the pageantry.

Take away quarterback Tim Tebow's final Gator Walk. Take away the pregame ceremony honoring the University of Florida's record-setting senior class. Take away the final home game for some of the Gators' best players in school history. Take it all away.

None of it matters if No. 1 Florida (11-0) loses to rival Florida State (6-5) on Saturday. Only the loss will be remembered. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Florida is a 24 ½-point favorite.

Gators looking to solidify wide receiver position before Kentucky

Something is missing. University of Florida coach Urban Meyer knows it, and after watching last Saturday's game against Tennessee, everyone else knows it, too. Last season's fastest team in college football is a step or two slower in 2009.

Gone is receiver Percy Harvin, who is now catching touchdowns in Minnesota. Gone too is receiver Louis Murphy, who last year stretched the field for the Gators and is now doing the same for Oakland. Who's stretching the field for the Gators this season? No one.

The No. 1-ranked team in the country enters Week 4 of the college football season precariously thin at wide receiver. When UF (3-0) takes the field inside Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium at 6 p.m. Saturday, the Gators' offensive game plan, according to Meyer, will likely include identifying new targets for quarterback Tim Tebow.

Bobby Bowden has seen some strange occurrences through the years of Florida State's intense rivalry with Florida.

Miraculous comebacks. ``Phantom'' penalties. Devastating turnovers.

And to hear Bowden tell it Sunday, the Seminoles might need all of those things to happen for Florida State to knock off top-ranked Florida on Saturday in Gainesville.

Florida Gators land in Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati Bearcats

An upsetting week for the Florida Gators ended with concerns about the health of the team's coach and a parting gift: an invitation to the Sugar Bowl.

Coach Urban Meyer admitted himself to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida early Sunday morning and was treated for dehydration, according to a team spokesman. Meyer was released later Sunday morning and spent the day at his home in Gainesville.

The Gators lost to Alabama 32-13 on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference championship game. The week began badly for the Gators when star defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Saturday's win propelled Alabama (13-0) to the BCS National Championship Game and relegated Florida to the Sugar Bowl.
