Joseph Goodman's college football selections
Miami 35, Virginia 24: The Canes won't need any late-game heroics from quarterback Jacory Harris in this one. Virginia coach Al Groh is on his way out. Favorite: Miami by 13 ½.
Florida 38, Vanderbilt 10: In two seasons, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has accounted for 10 touchdowns as a starter against Vanderbilt. Suspended UF linebacker Brandon Spikes isn't playing, but that won't matter. Favorite: Florida by 35.
Clemson 31, Florida State 30: The announced retirement of FSU defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews, coupled with an injured Christian Ponder, will be too much for the Noles to overcome. Favorite: Clemson by 9 ½.
Middle Tennessee State 25, FIU 20: MTSU looks to make it two in a row against Florida's Sun Belt Conference contingent. The Golden Panthers keep it close but fall in the fourth quarter. Favorite: MTSU by 12.
UAB 28, FAU 24: Losing starting quarterback Rusty Smith will be too much for the Owls to overcome against the Blazers, who feature one of the best rushing attacks in Conference USA. Favorite: UAB by 6 ½.
Texas 35, Central Florida 14: Can UCF pull off the BCS shocker of the week? No, but the Knights will keep it close for three quarters. Favorite: Texas by 34 ½.
Penn State 24, Ohio State 21: OSU quarterback Terrelle Pryor's homecoming will not be pleasant in Happy Valley. Favorite: Penn State by 4 ½.
Alabama 16, Louisiana State 13: LSU will upset the Crimson Tide if Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson is given time in the pocket, but we don't expect that to happen. Favorite: Alabama by 7 ½.
Last week: 5-3 straight up (not bad, considering the Pokes' poor showing against surging Texas). Nailed Oregon's upset of USC.
