Vargas, Boyd lead Miami-Dade men in defeat

The Miami Dade College men's basketball team lost its season opener to Daytona State College 70-67 on Monday night.
The Sharks were led by Terrance Boyd 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists.
Eloy Vargas had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks, 2 steals; and Dominique Rutledge 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. SOCCER
UM women: The University of Miami will take on the Canadian National Team on Tuesday in an exhibition match at the Holiday Inn Sunrise. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Team Canada has come to South Florida to train for the 2010 World Cup and will face the Hurricanes as part of its training regimen.
Barry men: Barry will take on the Rollins College Tars in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. The Buccaneers will face the Tars on Friday at Cahill/Sandspur Field on Rollins' campus, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
UF men: The University of Florida will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for NCAA Championship First Round action. The Gators will face Illinois State in Friday's opening round at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The other first-round pairing includes Ohio State versus Oregon State. The winners of Friday's matches will meet Sunday in NCAA Second Round action. Start times are to be announced.
