GULFSTREAM MOVES

Gulfstream Park has made a change in its top management, hiring Ken Dunn to succeed Bill Murphy.

Dunn, a former president of Calder Race Course, has joined its management team ``effective immediately.'' Gulfstream's news release did not list Dunn's title or specify his duties.

On Saturday, Gulfstream announced that Murphy resigned as its president and general manager and ``will assist with the management transition'' as it prepares to open its racing season on Jan. 3. The Hallandale Beach thoroughbred track did not announce a reason for the resignation.

On Monday, Kent Stirling, executive director of the Florida Horsemen's Protective and Benevolent Association said he met with Dunn and top executives of Magna Entertainment Corp., Gulfstream's parent company, who told him Dunn will take Murphy's duties.

Dunn was Calder's president from 1990 through mid-2008. Murphy joined Gulfstream in June 2006 as vice president in charge of racing and was appointed the track's president in January 2007.

Magna has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since March. Magna is attempting to sell several of its nine U.S. tracks. But several company officials have said Gulfstream is among the tracks it would like to retain.
