Victory in men's golf for Nova
The Nova Southeastern men's golf team won the 54-hole Rollins College Invitational on Tuesday, its final tournament of the fall schedule.
The Sharks finished at 21-under-par 845, three shots ahead of St. Edward's. Barry and Lynn tied for third at 16-under, and Rollins was fifth at 10-under.
Ben Vertz shot a 10-under 206 to finish in third place in the individual standings for Nova. Nova's Jack Bartlett tied for fourth at 8-under. Lynn's Patricio Salem was the medalist by defeating St. Edward's Collin Mayer on the second playoff hole. Each finished at 11-under.
WOMEN'S GOLF
UM: The Hurricanes finished 17th out of 18 teams in the 36-hole Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island, S.C.
East Tennessee State won the team title at 15-over 879, 16 shots ahead of Kansas (1-over). Kennesaw State (2-over) was third, followed by East Carolina (3-over) and Maryland (four-over) to finish out the top five.
Jennifer Hirano was the Hurricanes' top finisher at 7-over 223, good enough for a tie for 13th place. Jessie Hollandsworth of Maryland was the medalist at 3-under 213.
Nova Southeastern: Sandra Changkija won medalist honors and the Sharks finished in second place at the 54-hole Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C.
It was Nova's final tournament of the fall schedule.
Chankija finished at 4-under 212 to win by eight strokes over Rollins' Joanna Coe.
Nova's Maria Garcia-Austt tied for fourth at 9-over 225.
Rollins won the event with a total of 33-over 897, seven shots ahead of Nova. Eastern Michigan finished third at 53-over, followed by Georgetown (70-over) and Akron (71-over).
VOLLEYBALL
Nova Southeastern def. Barry 25-21, 25-15, 25-17: Carly Perschnick had 13 kills and no errors, Kathleen Young had 20 digs and Valia Petrova 45 assists for host Nova (15-9, 6-5 Sunshine State Conference). Barry is 11-9 and 2-7.
Miami Dade College def. Broward CC 25-12, 25-15, 26-24: Anne Stebner-Chala had nine kills and six digs, Yenifer Calcano eight kills and 11 digs and Sandra Montoya 13 digs for host MDC, which finished 12-0 in the Southern Conference for the third year in a row.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Northwood 2, Nova Southeastern 0: Sarah Glass made nine saves for visiting Nova, which was outshot 21-6.
