FIU

Heading into its weekend matches with Troy and South Alabama, the FIU volleyball team has won 10 consecutive matches and has shut out opponents 12 times this season -- including eight of the past 10 matches.

At 17-2, FIU is off to its best start in school history with an unblemished mark of 7-0 in Sun Belt play. The Panthers received nine votes in the latest edition of the AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll and rank 18th in the first 2009 NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI Rankings.

For the third consecutive week, three-time All-American Yarimar Rosa was named Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Rosa now owns a career Sun Belt record 12 SBC Player of the Week honors.

Last weekend, Rosa led FIU to its fourth consecutive unbeaten weekend, as the Panthers defeated Denver 3-0 and North Texas 3-0. Rosa recorded a team-high 40 kills over both matches for a 6.67 kills-per-set mark. She secured 21 kills versus Denver and 19 kills against North Texas.

UM

Hurricanes runner Charles Michel was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week for his performance at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando last weekend.

Michel has paced the Hurricanes in each of their four races this season. At the Disney Classic, Michel placed 18th out of 205 competitors in a time of 26:58.00 on the 8K course.

With the honor, Michel is the first Hurricane men's cross country runner to win the ACC Performer of the Week award since UM joined the conference in 2004.
