Canes get two top-10 finishes
The University of Miami women's cross-country team finished sixth and the men's team finished 10th at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando on Saturday.
Sophomore Anna Bona ran the top time for the UM women's team, finishing in 19 minutes, 57.0 seconds, good enough for 24th place. Kennesaw State won the team title, and the Owls' Mackenzie Howe won the individual title in 18:07.60.
``The women did well through the first mile, but gave up some position into mile two,'' UM assistant coach Damon Griffiths said. ``We have to work on closing our races. However, they have showed improvement in different aspects in each race this season.''
In the men's race, junior Charles Michel was UM's top finisher in 26:58.0, good enough for 18th place.
Winston-Salem State's Andrew Chebii-Singh won the individual title in 25:22.40, and Kennesaw State took the team title. UM finished with 275 points.
``I thought the men ran too conservative, and it cost them,'' Griffiths said. ``They didn't put themselves in position to make moves in the early miles.''
