Carico shines in UM loss

Duke's Rachael Moss stamped 19 kills, and Becci Burling supplied another 14 to lead Duke University past the University of Miami, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) in an ACC volleyball matchup Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Miami (10-7, 3-4 ACC) kept the first set close in a frame that saw six ties and three lead changes in its attempt to unseat Duke (16-2, 6-0 ACC) of the final remaining title of ACC-unbeaten.

Miami was led by Lane Carico's 15 kills and 13 digs, continuing her double-double streak to seven consecutive matches in a losing effort.

It was her ninth double-double of the year.

SOCCER Miami 2, Clemson 0: Brittney Steinbruch scored a goal and had one assist. Beverly Goebel had one goal. UM 7-6 (2-2 ACC); Clem. 3-10 (0-5).

VOLLEYBALL

Northwest College (Wyoming) d. Miami Dade College 19-25, 19-25, 21-25: The Lady Sharks were led by Yenifer Calcano (14 kills, 8 digs, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 ace), Anne Stebner-Chala (10 kills, 6 digs, 1 block), and Sandra Montoya (15 digs, 6 assists, 3 blocks, 2 kills).

The Lady Sharks are 16-3, 8-0 in conference.

Miami Dade College d. Pasco-Hernando Community College 25-13, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21: The Lady Sharks were led by Calcano's 11 kills and 11 digs.
