UM volleyball rolls
Lane Carico had 22 kills and Christine Williamson and Lici McGee added 14 each to help the University of Miami volleyball team defeat host Wake Forest 25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 25-18 on Thursday.
UM (10-6, 3-3) won its first Atlantic Coast Conference road game of the season. Wake Forest is 6-11 and 4-2. Carico has had at least 20 kills in three consecutive matches. She also had 22 digs, giving her a team-high sixth consecutive double-double.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
UM: Senior Laura Vallverdu, who is ranked sixth in the nation, lost 6-2, 6-2 to 12th-ranked Sanaz Marand of North Carolina on Thursday in the first round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Vallverdu, a three-time All-American, drops to the consolation bracket, where she will play Friday.
