FIU wins in volleyball to reach 5-0 in Sun Belt
Yarimar Rosa had 13 kills and 10 digs, helping the host FIU volleyball team defeat FAU 25-16, 25-15, 29-27 on Tuesday night.
Natalia Valentin had 18 digs and 35 assists and Sabrina Gonzalez and Isadora Rangel had nine kills each for FIU (15-2, 5-0 Sun Belt Conference). FIU had a .307 attack percentage and limited FAU to a .196. attack percentage.
Christina Wallinger had 14 kills and four block assists and Kristyna Dzmuranova had 12 digs for FAU (3-11, 2-4).
Lynn def. Barry 25-12, 25-17, 25-23: Julia Teixiera had 15 kills and 15 digs and Libby Walters had 29 assists for visiting Barry (10-5, 2-4 Sunshine State Conference). Lynn is 14-4 and 3-2.
MEN'S GOLF
Barry: The Buccaneers won the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational at the Green Island Country Club in Columbus, Ga, for their first title of the season.
Barry made up three strokes on first-round leader North Alabama with a 6-under-par 278 in the second round and finished at 7-under 561, 10 strokes ahead of North Alabama.
Nova Southeastern finished tied for 10th with Florida Southern and Georgia Southwestern.
Victor Billskoog and Carlos Verez finished tied for fourth in the individual standings at 2-under 140 for Barry, three shots behind medalist Craig Gibson of Georgia Southwestern. Jack Bartlett of Nova Southeastern finished tied for sixth at 1-under.
WOMEN'S GOLF
FIU: The Golden Panthers finished 11th in the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Their 54-hole total of 74-over 938 was 30 strokes behind champion Wisconsin (908).
FIU's Paula Hurtado tied for 10th in the individual standings with a 14-over 230 total, eight strokes behind medalist Kristina Merkle of Tulsa.
