Led by freshman Tania Tare, playing her first college event, FIU is in a tie for seventh place after the first round of the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Tare, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, shot 77, good for a tie for 15th place.

The Golden Panthers are tied with Ole Miss with 314 totals, 13 strokes behind leader Tulsa.

WOMEN'S GOLF

• UM finishes 13th: Sophomore Jennifer Hirano shot 5-over-par 77 to finish in a tie for 13th place as Hurricanes finished 11th at the Eat-A-Peach Collegiate tournament at Macon, Ga.

Teammate Maria Ronderos followed Hirano by shooting 79 to finish tied for 30th. Freshman Shelby Gilbert rallied to finish tied for 36th place.

• Nova takes early lead: The Sharks lead the USF/Waterlefe Invitational at Bradenton by three strokes after two rounds.

The Sharks (589) lead Campbell (592) by three strokes. South Florida (595), Stetson (598) and Daytona State (608) round out the top five.

Nova's Taylor Collins shot a 36-hole total of 139 to lead all individuals.

MEN'S GOLF

• Nova: The Nova Southeastern University men's golf team is tied for fourth place after one day of play at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at Columbus, Ga.

Three groups were still on the course and will finish on Tuesday.

North Alabama is the leader in the clubhouse after scoring a team round of 280. Barry University and Barton College are three shots back. Nova shot 286 after the first round.
