Missed interception chance haunts FSU's Everette Brown

Florida State defensive end Everette Brown can't seem to escape the near interception he dropped in the fourth quarter Saturday night against Miami.

Brown, who was in pass coverage as part of a zone blitz, said he executed the play perfectly.

''I did everything right leading up to it,'' he said. 'I hit the back, and then I saw the ball coming and it was like slow motion. I was like, 'He really threw the ball.' Then I tried to take off before I caught it.''

And the ball fell helplessly to the Dolphin Stadium grass. Since then, Brown has received constant ribbing from his teammates.

''We watched it about 20 times [in the film room],'' Brown said. ``They just kept rewinding and laughing.''

Brown has even seen the play in his dreams.

''I dreamed I caught it,'' Brown said.

NO CONTACT FOR GARVIN

Senior cornerback Michael Ray Garvin, who was knocked out of the Miami game with a mild concussion, returned to practice Tuesday and said he expects to play next week against N.C. State.

''I practiced today,'' said Garvin, who also is the Seminoles' top kick returner. ``I just didn't do any hitting.''
