Defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews was pleased with the Seminoles' ability to deflect passes.

Florida State intercepted three passes and broke up 13 others.

''That is a number that you usually don't [see],'' Andrews said. ``That is big right there.''

SAFETY FIRST

Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher loves the toughness of his sophomore quarterback, Christian Ponder. He just wishes Ponder would at least consider sliding. In rushing for 144 yards against Miami, Ponder took numerous big hits in the open field.

''There are times you get caught up in the game, and I respect that,'' Fisher said. ``But sometimes you have to be careful that you don't take a couple of shots and get banged up.''

CARTER, HUDSON HONORED

Sophomore guard Rodney Hudson was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week, and senior cornerback Tony Carter was tabbed as the conference's top defensive back.

Hudson led a line that cleared the way for 281 rushing yards and allowed no sacks; Carter hauled in two interceptions.
