South Dade junior defensive end Ed Stinson, rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, has orally committed to Florida State University.

Stinson (6-5, 234 pounds) is rated the No. 5 defensive end in Florida by Rivals, and has offers from the Universities of Miami, South Florida, Florida International, Auburn and Kansas.

Stinson, a two-sport star, had 15 sacks and 60 tackles in his first season playing football last year. He led the Bucs to the Class 6A regional finals. He also led South Dade's boys' basketball team to the Class 6A regional semifinals, averaging 17 points and 15 rebounds.

''The chance to play both football and basketball as a big reason he's chosen the Seminoles,'' South Dade basketball coach John Herron said.

Stinson is the second Miami-Dade County defensive end of the Class of 2009 to commit early to a state school, joining American's Olivier Vernon (UM). He is FSU's eighth early commitment so far, and the second defensive end. Tallahassee Florida High's Brandon Jenkins is the other.
