TALLAHASSEE -- After struggling with a hamstring injury for the first week of preseason practice, senior receiver Louis Givens is starting to regain his form.
Givens, a former walk-on who earned a scholarship after an impressive 2008 season, scored a touchdown and rushed for 37 yards on two carries during Saturday's final preseason scrimmage.
``I think he's getting back to where he was,'' coach Bobby Bowden said.
Givens, who originally attended Mars Hill College in North Carolina, was an unknown going into last season. But he made a handful of nice plays last fall and was one of FSU's top receivers in the spring.
``I just want to be a spark on the offense,'' Givens said. ``Whenever we need it, or whenever the defense is not looking for it, it's going to come.''
MINCEY EYES RETURN DATE Two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, senior defensive tackle Justin Mincey is eager to return. ``I feel like I'm going to be back real soon,'' said Mincey, who added he no longer has pain and is now working to regain his strength. He said he might be back for FSU's third game, Sept. 19 at Brigham Young.
