The coaching staff soon will have to make a couple of decisions on whether to redshirt some players. Sophomore defensive end Cody Pellicer and freshman linebacker Winston Fraser, each of whom have not played this season because of hand injuries, appear to be on the mend.

Coach Mario Cristobal said he would like to make a decision next week on both players, who will not play Saturday against Middle Tennessee and will have missed half of the season.

''Pellicer is fine,'' Cristobal said. ``We could possibly redshirt him. He's missed so many games already and it would be nice to have a guy with a couple of extra years. Cody still has the little splint that he could play with, but he's not 100 percent, but who is? He's a heck of a player and he's got a bright future so we have to be careful with what we do.''

Fraser, one of four freshmen from Miami Booker T. Washington on defense, also could be redshirted. ''Winston had the pin pulled out of there,'' Cristobal said. ``He's fine. He's 100 percent. That's a decision whether to redshirt him or not also. He's missed an entire summer of strength and conditioning due to it.''

Cristobal did say defensive lineman Curtis Bryant (hand) is healthy and could play Saturday.
