FIU punter Cook practices, but return is questionable

ppelegrin@MiamiHerald.com

Chris Cook, who has not practiced or played since last season's finale, punted after practice Wednesday afternoon.

Cook, a junior left-footed punter who is out because of a back injury, looked sharp, nailing a couple of 60-yard punts.

But Cook said he is not completely healthy, and is not sure if he ever will be.

The possibility exists that Cook could get a medical hardship at the end of the season if he cannot play football again.

''Once you play ball, you always want to be in it,'' coach Mario Cristobal said. ``Chris is seeing if his back will hold up, and if it can we just got ourselves a bonus punter who can do a heck of a job for us.''

If Cook cannot play again and receives the medical hardship, FIU gets one scholarship back.

SATURDAY'S GAME ON INTERNET

Panther Pass will broadcast Saturday's game between FIU and Middle Tennessee on fiusports.com.

The rest of the Golden Panthers' games this season also will be available on Panther Pass.
