Running back Julian Reams missed practice for the second day in a row because of a calf injury that he sustained Saturday at Toledo.
Reams, a senior who scored three touchdowns against the Rockets, ran on his own before practice and could return to practice Thursday.
''Julian ran around pretty well,'' coach Mario Cristobal said. ``He's looking good for Saturday.''
With Reams not at 100 percent, reserve Daunte Owens could see his first significant playing time of the season behind A'mod Ned. Owens had a hand injury during camp that limited his preseason preparations, but he is healthy.
''Daunte has done a good job,'' Cristobal said. ``He will have a golden opportunity on Saturday to show what he can do.''
NEW SCOREBOARD INSTALLED
A new scoreboard was installed at FIU Stadium on Wednesday above the west end zone bleachers. Unlike the JumboTron scoreboard above the east end zone bleachers, which has video replay, the new scoreboard will only display game statistics.
FIU will get its first test of the new scoreboard when it plays its next home game Oct. 11 against Middle Tennessee.
