Arkansas State silences FIU bats

Joel Boeschen pitched a complete game and Ryan Hudgins and Guy Brown homered to lift Arkansas State to a 7-1 victory over Florida International on Sunday in Jonesboro, Ark.
Boeschen (3-3) allowed one run and four hits, struck out six and walked one for Arkansas State.
Eric Horstmann (2-2) gave up three runs and three hits, walked one and struck out one in 2 2/3 innings for the Golden Panthers.
Catcher Steven Stropp had two hits for the Golden Panthers (17-32, 9-15 Sun Belt).
Lawson Hipps went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Arkansas State (18-30, 8-17).
Arkansas State took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Brandon Eller's sacrifice fly and Hudgins' two-run home run.
Arkansas state made it 6-0 in the fourth with three runs off reliever James Lajiness. Murray Watts reached on catcher's interference and scored on Jett Jones' triple to right.
Hipps and Todd Baumgartner added RBI singles to make it 6-0.
Boeschen did his part on the mound, holding FIU hitless until Steven Stropp's leadoff single in the fifth.
FIU got its run in the fifth on an RBI double from Jorge Castillo that scored Javier Sujo from second base.
Brown pushed the lead to 7-1 in the eighth with a leadoff home run.
