Allen powers FIU to victory

Chris Allen allowed three hits and one walk and struck out seven over six scoreless innings to lead Florida International to an 11-2 victory over host Arkansas State.

Allen (4-3) made his first start since April 12 and was nearly unhittable. He threw just 74 pitches.

and three runs scored to lead FIU (17-31, 9-14 Sun Belt). Tyler Townsend drove in two runs and Corey Lozano, Ty Main and Raimy Fuentes each had two hits.

Jett Jones (1-8) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs, five earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 4 2/3 innings for ASU (17-30, 6-17).

FIU took advantage of two ASU miscues in the bottom of the third to grab a 1-0 lead. Lozano reached on an error by first baseman Brandon Eller, which moved Main to third on the play. Main, who doubled earlier in the inning, scored on a strike three passed ball for the first run of the game.

The Golden Panthers increased the lead to 3-0 with in the fourth. Steven Stropp and Petika led off the inning with back-to-back singles and moved to third on Townsend's sacrifice bunt.
