FIU took care of the Sun Belt's top team, Louisiana-Monroe, by pounding out a season high in hits in a 17-10 victory Sunday afternoon at University Park Stadium.
By winning the three-game series, FIU kept itself in the thick of the race for a spot in the Sun Belt tournament.
The Golden Panthers are in ninth place, trailing Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee by a game for the final spot in the tournament with nine Sun Belt games remaining.
On Sunday, the Golden Panthers battered Warhawks pitchers for 20 hits, including three home runs.
Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning, FIU erupted for eight runs, including a grand slam by second baseman Ryan Mollica.
Mollica, who leads FIU with a .425 average, was 5 for 6 with five RBI and fell a triple short of the cycle.
Golden Panthers third baseman Jorge Castillo also helped out at the plate, going 4 for 4, and left fielder John Petika was 3 for 6.
For the third time this week, the Golden Panthers got much-needed help from long reliever James Lajiness (4-0), who went four innings to earn his third victory in FIU's past four games.
Lajiness, a right-hander, escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth inning to preserve FIU's 5-4 lead. Lajiness pitched 14 innings in three games during the week, and also picked up victories against New Orleans and Miami.
