Doing jumping jacks on one leg to finish Wednesday's practice, senior punter Carlos Munera was doing his best to return for the final game of his FIU career.
Munera, whose left ankle was dislocated by Florida defensive back Markihe Anderson on a punt Saturday, wore a protective boot Wednesday but hopes to be back Dec. 5 when FIU hosts Florida Atlantic.
``He's out there rehabbing as best as he could,'' coach Mario Cristobal said. ``He feels like he's going to be back, so we'll see next week. Hopefully, by Monday a lot of the swelling will be out of there.''
Kicker Dustin Rivest filled in for Munera for the rest of Saturday's game and did an admirable job, with punts of 50 and 42 yards on his first two attempts and averaging 40 yards per punt.
``Dustin did well, except for dropping the ball at the end of the game,'' Cristobal said. ``It was a very catchable ball. Aside from that, he punted well.''
Cristobal added that he does not think it will affect Rivest's placekicking if he has to punt against the Owls.
``You're looking at an extra six to eight reps a game if you are not moving the ball well,'' Cristobal said. ``Sometimes two to four reps. He's trained for it.''
